At 3,324 feet, Frozen Head, the park's namesake, is the highest peak (1,013 m). The name of the mountain stems from its snow-capped look during the winter months.


Is Frozen Head State Park home to bears?

Black bears have also made their way into the Cumberlands, with rangers spotting them in Frozen Head. Black bears from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park were released into the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area to the north in 1996 and 1997.
