The Obed River is a watercourse in Tennessee that drains a section of the Cumberland Plateau. It, and especially its tributaries, are popular among whitewater kayakers. The Obed River rises immediately south of Crossville in Cumberland County, Tennessee.
According to legend, the Obed was named after Obediah (Obey) Terril, a late-eighteenth-century longhunter who travelled across the Cumberland Plateau. This same individual, presumably, named both the Obed and the Obey rivers, and both were named the Obey.
Several kinds of fish that may grow to be over one foot long can be found in the Obed River System. Smallmouth Bass, Long-nose Garr, Catfish, and Muskellunge are the species (also referred to as the Muskie or the Jackfish). To capture these kinds of fish, you'll need a hook that's at least two inches long.
The Obed River is a wild and scenic river. The Obed River starts at Crossville, Tennessee, and runs to the Emory River's mouth. The river's tributaries, Clear Creek and Daddy's Creek, are protected under the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.
