The Obed Natural & Scenic River was developed to protect one of the Eastern United States' few free-flowing, wild river systems.
The Obed River starts at Crossville, Tennessee, and runs to the Emory River's mouth. The river's tributaries, Clear Creek and Daddy's Creek, are protected under the National Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.
According to legend, the Obed was named after Obediah (Obey) Terril, a late-eighteenth-century longhunter who travelled across the Cumberland Plateau. This same person, presumably, named both the Obed and the Obey rivers, and both were named the Obey.

Several species of fish that can grow to be over one foot long can be found in the Obed River System. Smallmouth Bass, Long-nose Garr, Catfish, and Muskellunge are the species (also referred to as the Muskie or the Jackfish). To capture these kinds of fish, you'll need a hook that's at least two inches long.
