Hixson, in Hamilton County, Tennessee, is a formerly unincorporated village that is now a part of Chattanooga. The Chattanooga, TN-GA Metropolitan Statistical Area includes it, and it is located in Chattanooga's northeastern region.

According to standard definitions, Hixson is the region to the north of Rivermont and to the east of Red Bank. Highway 27, as far as to the south of the unincorporated Middle Valley and Thrasher Pike. The Tennessee River forms its eastern boundary, and Hixson's neighborhoods include DuPont, Northgate, Big Ridge, and Valleybrook.

John and Elendar Hixson, pioneers, were the first Europeans to occupy the area near Hixson, sometime around 1821. John Hixson, who was born in 1797, was from Virginia while Elendar was born in Bledsoe County, Tennessee. William Hixson II from Frodsham, the great great grandpa of John Hixson, sailed to New Jersey in the middle of the 1600s and brought this Hixson family to America for the first time. Nine children were born to John and Elendar between 1821 and 1851. Some of the family started moving further westward in 1852 to southern Missouri in the mistaken belief that it would remain a neutral zone in the impending civil war because they were adamantly opposed to any involvement in one.

There are many local attractions in Hixson. Its eastern boundary includes a number of marinas along the Tennessee River and the Chickamauga Dam. The North Chickamauga Creek Conservancy's Greenway Farms includes sports, a dog park, hiking, and canoeing. The Chattanooga Classic is played at Valleybrook Golf Course, which was also a frequent PGA stop from 1983 through 1991.
